Best Winter Kayak Fishing Gloves
As you all probably know by now, Kayak Fishing is one of my favorite forms of fishing. Actually, Kayak Fishing is one of my favorite past-times period. Not much beats being out on the water, taking in all that nature has to offer. Let’s now talk about Winter Kayak Fishing Gloves.
With the cooler weather that Fall brings, I need a warmer and reliable pair of kayak fishing gloves to go with all my other cold weather kayak fishing gear. With the right gear, Fall and Winter fishing can still be heap of fun.
If you are looking for the criteria that makes the most sense for kayak fishing, please refer to this previous article on the Best Kayak Fishing Gloves.
However right now, I am going to cut to the chase and let you know my “goto” fishing glove for Fall and Winter Fishing. Yes, its the Mustad Casting Fishing Glove.
Mustad Casting Glove – Your ultimate Winter Kayak Fishing Gloves
Why am I sure a fan of these gloves? These are the features that keep me coming back to these gloves more than any of my other gloves:
Comfort
These are great fitting kayak fishing gloves. The material is some type of mesh matrix blend. I don’t even know what that means. What I do know, is that these glove are comfortable. The adjustable wrist strap ensures a nice fit.
Sizing Fit
I am not actually talking about the “size” of the gloves. However these gloves do come in Small, Medium, Large and Extra Large.
I am actually referring to the “bulk” size, finger and thumb lengths and cuff length. I really think Mustad got this absolutely spot-on. These gloves are not too “baggy” and not too tight like spandex gloves.
Here is the sizing chart in any case:
Lure Kayak Fishing
These gloves are fit for purpose. They are especially designed for casting of lures, both small and large. The padding on the palm is plentiful for padding and support for holding a large rod, reeling in that large fish, or securely holding your paddle.
What I really like about these gloves is the full finger and the padded finger tips. I am a baitcaster fisher. I love nothing more than flicking a hundred casts in the hope of tempting that one monster bass. That makes these gloves perfect for controlling the line with your thumb. Basically, preventing line burn, especially if your hands get wet. I will let you in on another secret, sometimes I even use this gloves in summer! I find the material highly breathable.
Warmth
I find these kayak fishing gloves provide adequate protection from wind, cold and rain (to some extent). They keep my hands sufficiently warm, while providing ample dexteriority for winter fishing.
Price Point For Winter Kayak Fishing Gloves
These kayak fishing gloves are amazing great value. at around $25. In my opinion they are better than other kayak gloves that are 2 or 3 times the price.
Maintenance
I find that they gloves do become a bit smelly after a few fishing trips. This is mostly from the fish slime. I always dry these gloves out after each use. However they do need the occasional wash. I simply soak these in a bucket of soapy water and then hand them on the line. Very simple. I would wash these once a year.
Ok, so what’s the catch for these Winter Kayak Fishing Gloves?
The only real negative of these gloves is that they are not waterproof. They are water resistant. Basically if you submerge your fingers, the material will absorb a small amount of water. I still find that they still keen my actual fingers dry and warm. However the outer material will be wet. The material is quick drying, however in winter this will take longer. I am actually ok with this, as I prefer these lighter weight fishing gloves instead of thick winter kayak fishing gloves.
